LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation along with WLNS-TV announced Wednesday that $5,000 is going to the Spartan Strong Fund.

The foundation was created after the Feb. 13 shooting at Michigan State University and Berkey Hall that left three students dead and five others injured.

While MSU pays the hospital bills, the Spartan Strong Fund provides support for those most affected by the shooting.

“The WLNS 6 News team is devastated by the tragedy that occurred at Michigan State University on February 13th,” said Marcy Daniels, vice president and general manager of WLNS-TV. “We are grieving with our community and would like to do our part to provide much-needed support to the injured students and others who have been most affected. We believe this will make a difference and ease the pain during the healing process. It’s going to be a long road and we have to stay Spartan strong.”

MSU Interim President Teresa K. Woodruff thanked WLNS-TV for its support.

“As the MSU family continues to rebuild, the support and encouragement of partners like Nextstar is a powerful reminder of the strength of our Mid-Michigan community,” Woodruff said. “We are grateful for their support of the Spartan Strong Fund, which will provide critical financial flexibility as we work to identify meaningful ways to meet the emerging needs of those most affected.”
