SALT LAKE CITY, UT (KarDTU) — The families of Gabby Petit and Brian Londry have settled a $3 million lawsuit alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress, multiple media outlets have reported.

The settlement is the result of a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Brian Londry’s family.

Gabby’s parents filed an intentional infliction of emotional distress claim against the Laundries, claiming they knew their son strangled her to death, left her body in Wyoming and failed to provide the Petitos with information that would have given them closure sooner.

An attorney for Petit’s family told Fox News that the $3 million settlement is an “arbitrary number,” but that the money will go to Gabby Petit’s foundation.

Gabby’s body was found in the Bridger-Teton National Forest and her cause of death was determined to be strangulation. Lundry reportedly wrote in a notebook that he was responsible for Gabby’s death. The notebook was found after Lundry was found dead. Authorities said he committed suicide.
