Renovation of the parking lot at the old Produce Palace in Warren has revived speculation as to what business is going to take over the space, which has been vacant for more than three years.

Located on Dequindre Road north of 12 Mile Road, the former Produce Palace building is now divided into several shopping units, according to Warren City Construction Director Jim Cummins.

Rumors of an Asian market that will fill an area of 36,000 square feet have been circulating for a couple of years. Planning Director Warren Ron Wurt said there should be an Asian restaurant in the south of the building, but he doesn’t know what else might be in the other part of the building.

Cummins said developers “aren’t quite there yet” as far as they know exactly which companies will be moving in space. Right now, it seems to be moving towards something closer to the mall than the popular fruit and vegetable market that once occupied the space.
