Women and children seeking help at St. John’s Ascension Children’s Hospital in Detroit will find some changes being made to improve health care received in Detroit, thanks to a recent multimillion-dollar investment made by Gross Pointe native Mary Ann Van Elslander.

The donation will support the “Your Child, We Care at St. John’s Children’s Hospital” campaign, which will bring the campaign to a minimum goal of $ 18 million and is part of a renovation to expand the pediatric ward and create a special entrance for women and children arriving at the hospital. The Van Elslander Women’s and Children’s Entrance will provide comfort and convenience to expectant mothers and children in need of emergency care, and eliminate the need to enter through the main emergency center.

A Mary Ann Van Elsander Pediatric Unit will also be established, which will provide additional privacy for children and parents with facilities that will match the high quality of care provided.

“My passion has always contributed to the well-being of infants and children,” Mrs. Van Elslander said in a press release. “Having blessed a large family, I am pleased to support St. John the Ascension Children’s Hospital, which has done an excellent job of serving the families of our community and will continue to do so for future generations.”
