Police are still looking for a 49-year-old man who escaped from Mount Clemens Hospital last week in only a hospital gown and coat.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, Jerry Griffin was at McLaren Macomb on Harrington Street on March 24 when he left while in custody. He left on foot, and was last seen in a blue paper dress and a long black coat.

Investigators said Griffin was hospitalized on a petition for a psychiatric examination of his condition when he left the medical facility.

It is believed that he was heading to Detroit, according to the sheriff’s office.

He is described as a black man 5 feet 9 feet tall, weighing 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. There is a tattoo in the middle of his forehead.

“If you are watching Griffin or know his whereabouts, please do not approach him, as his mental state is unknown,” the sheriff said in a statement.

Griffin is not expected to be armed, they added.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 586-469-5502.
