The Cleveland Browns were able to quickly wash away their tough loss to the New York Jets with a 29-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

It was a similar scenario Sunday against the Jets, though Steelers attempted an onside kick with less than two minutes to play and Cleveland up by six points. But an offsides penalty killed that attempt, and the Browns ended the game without a crazy comeback. In fact, they put together the last lateral play that went wrong for Pittsburgh in the end zone to seal the win.

Nick Chubb was the tone-setter for the Browns offense. He had another great game on the ground, tearing through the Steelers defense. Chubb’s second-half touchdown made it a two-point game for the home team, and he finished with a game-high 113 yards on 23 carries.

Chubb had 87 yards and three touchdowns against the Jets on Sunday and had 141 yards on 22 carries in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers.

Defenseman Jacoby Brissett was very effective for Cleveland, going 21-for-31 for 220 with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

In the first half, it was the Browns who got on the board first thanks to a mismatch that wide receiver Amari Cooper took advantage of. His quarterback gave too much space near the goal line and the snap was right on the money from Brissett for a touchdown.

Cooper finished the game as the leader in receiving yards with 101 on seven catches.

The Steelers eventually answered right after Cooper’s touchdown, with rookie George Pickens making an impressive 36-yard one-handed catch down the right sideline. It was a catch reminiscent of Odell Beckham Jr.’s famous 2014 catch against the Dallas Cowboys, but while that was a touchdown, Pickens’ grab forced the Steelers to go to the Browns’ side of the field.

A few plays later, Naji Harris, who ran 56 yards on 15 carries and caught three balls for nine yards, rushed into the end zone to make it 7-7.

A shootout ensued as both teams traded touchdowns again on the ensuing drives.

David Njoku climbed a ladder to pick off Brissett’s pass in the end zone in 1-on-1 coverage for a seven-yard score. But rookie Cade York, who missed an extra point in the team’s eventual game-clinching loss to the New York Jets, missed another to make it 13-7.

Chris Boswell kicked his extra point after Trubisky rushed into the end zone to give the Steelers a 14-13 lead.

But the Steelers couldn’t find the end zone in the second half, and after Chubb’s touchdown, the Browns had all they needed to clinch the division win.

The Browns will look to keep their momentum going on the road against the Atlanta Falcons, which will continue into next week’s extended rest.
