Guy Johnsonson of a famous writer, scientist, poet and activist Maya Angelovpassed away on Wednesday (February 16) at the age of 77.

Family posted the statement on Angelou’s official Facebook account which reads: “Mr. Guy Johnson, son of the late Mai Angela, passed away peacefully at his home this morning in Auckland, California. The message added that “agreements will be made and announced in the coming days.”

“We ask you to respect the privacy of your family at this difficult time,” the statement said. “Thank you for your prayers and words of consolation and strength.”

Last year Johnson has partnered with Wake Forest University to create a new residency program for artists to honor Angelou.

“We mourn the loss of Mai’s son Angela, Guy Johnson, and express our sincere condolences to his family,” Wake Forrest said in a statement Thursday (February 17th).

“Sir. Johnson was a good friend of Wake Forest and recently collaborated with the university on the founding of the May Angela Award for the artist’s residence to honor their mother’s legacy, celebrate outstanding artists and inspire future generations of Wake Forest students ”.

Johnson was a writer and former civil servant and spoke to him Crown 4 on Monday (February 14th) about her role in choosing a mother’s image for The American Quarter is made in her honor.

“One of the reasons I chose this image is, firstly, I know how hard it is to imagine the true nature and hostility of a man on a metal coin, and I thought the painting with the bird behind it, wings and outstretched arms gave it a sense of style which she had, sophistication, ”Johnson told the publication this week.
