CASSOPOLIS — A local event venue is gearing up for one of the biggest events of the year.
Marion Magnolia Farms, 57376 Twin Lakes Road, Cassopolis, is set to host its second annual Oktoberfest Artisan Market at The Farm from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, 57376 Twin Lakes Rd, Cassopolis.
Featuring more than 45 local artisans, vendors and food trucks from across Michiana, MMF owner Brittany File is looking to build on last year’s inaugural event. Activities, shops, and items to be found at the market include face painting, hay rides from noon to 2 p.m., Hidden Acres’ Walking Barn, refreshments, live music, and more.
The space has been used primarily as a private venue for weddings – File said the fall schedule has been very busy – but has also been used for local events such as the Greater Dowagiac Daddy Daughter Dance Young Professionals, the Dowagiac Area History Museum. History Live fundraiser and last year’s Oktoberfest fair.
“Almost every weekend was a triple wedding — a wedding on Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” she said. “(Couples) like the fall colors, the weather. This is such a sought-after month for weddings. An event like Oktoberfest is like coordinating five weddings. I like it so much.”
Acknowledging that organizing a large-scale market is a lot of work, File believes that providing a festive fall space for local businesses to showcase makes it worthwhile.
“I can’t tell you how many people I see say they enjoyed the event and felt it brought the community together,” Files said. “Cassopolis is growing in different ways and it’s great to see. Quite a lot of people gather all over Michiana (for this event).”
File said MMF is back on the fall color tour this year and expects people from Michiana and beyond to come this fall. Due to the large number of vehicles, valet parking has been hired on site and a parking fee of $5 per vehicle is charged.
