Detroit Medical Center (DMC) announced that Lela Hickenbotham has joined DMC’s Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) as Chief Nursing Officer.

She comes to RIM after 20 years as CNO at Special Tree Rehabilitation System in Romulus. In this role, she played a key role in implementing the organization’s electronic health record system, quality improvement initiatives, expanding the clinical program for nursing students, and implementing nurse performance measures to improve patient outcomes.

Hickonbotham earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and doctorate in nursing from the University of Michigan, as well as her master’s degree in nursing and her MBA from the University of Phoenix.

She is also a faculty member at Washtenaw Community College and Henry Ford Community College, providing clinical supervision for the education and development of nursing students.
