FLINT, Mich. – Motions to recall two Flint Public Schools Board of Education members have been filed in Genesee County District Court and are pending approval.

The petitions are filed against current board president Joyce Ellis-McNeil and treasurer Laurie McIntyre.

The Genesee County Board of Elections meets Friday, Aug. 12, to review both recalls and approve or reject the language.

A past recall filed against Ellis-McNeil in May was dismissed by the board for unclear wording.

Ellis-McNeill and Laura McIntyre are the only Flint Board of Education members whose terms are not expiring this year. The remaining five seats on the board are up for grabs elections in November.

Both recall petitions cite a complaint filed by Anita Steward on Sept. 8, 2021, which was also referenced in her lawsuit against the county. She is allegedly racial discrimination and violation of board policy, among others.
