MASON, Mich. — Alison Altenberger-Olson has received an award for excellence in education.

“She’s the kind of colleague who will go out of her way to help anyone, just because she cares,” says Altenberger-Olson candidate Kathleen Thomas. “She is a gift to her students.”

“I like the problem-solving aspect [teaching]. I enjoy working with children and colleagues and I believe that education is the best job where you can make a difference every day. It’s important,” Alison says. “What I do or don’t do in my classroom affects the kids, and I just … I think it’s the most important position and I love it.”

Alison received a $1,500 check from the Michigan Lottery, and her class at North Aurelio Elementary School will receive a $500 grant.
