Have you noticed the new Gmail design yet? Google has revamped its email platform, putting some popular work and business features front and center… well, left actually.

Gmail’s new design combines workspace and chat features

The updated platform allows users to enjoy a clean, streamlined way to move between Inbox, Chat, Spaces, and Meet.

In late January, Google unveiled a new layout for Gmail with deeper integration of Chat, Meet and Spaces.

On July 28, Google began rolling out a new integrated look to Gmail to all users who have chat enabled.

The new layout features a sidebar on the left that allows users to navigate between the Inbox and Chat, Spaces, and Meet. The new layout also boasts chat bubbles, making it easier to communicate in ongoing chats.

Quick settings

The quick settings menu allows users to toggle which apps appear in the sidebar, meaning they can use Gmail only when needed and turn off services they don’t care about.

For many small businesses, Google Chat has long been a vital tool. Whether used in one-on-one chat or in a dedicated group workspace, Chat makes it easy for teams to collaborate in an organized manner.

U blog post about the new, more unified Gmail Nina Kamath, Google product manager, writes about how Gmail’s new layout makes it easier for users to collaborate.

“Now you can optimize Gmail the way you like to stay connected, whether it’s a standalone email app or a hub to easily switch between chat, Spaces, and video calls in Google Meet. After 18 years of helping people collaborate and get things done, Gmail is more useful, customizable and integrated than ever before.”

Google says that over the next few weeks, users will be able to enable the integrated view using a new visual configuration option in Settings. Businesses that want to keep the existing Gmail layout will be able to do so.
