Former teacher and basketball coach will spend 30 years behind bars for producing child pornography, prosecutors announced Thursday.

Jeffrey D. Pierce, 42, posed as an underage female on social media and seduced dozens of minors in Topeka district to record and send him images of them engaging in sexual conduct, according to the court document.

Investigators seized Pierce’s phones and other electronic devices, revealing his scheme spanned several years and targeted more than 80 minors, including his own students at Marine secondary school where he used to teach.

Prosecutors allege that Pierce coerced at least one minor into sending him additional sexually explicit material by threatening to share the minor’s images with others. Pierce also distributed sexually explicit images of other minors and encouraged at least one to engage in personal sexual behavior with him, according to the Justice Department. press release.

Law enforcement recovered thousands of images and videos from Pierce’s electronic devices showing underage males engaging in sexual conduct. Many of the images showed nude and undressed minors, which appeared to have been taken in the locker room of the high school where he taught.

“Encouraging the production of child sexual abuse material is a particularly troubling crime that is made all the more egregious when it is committed by someone entrusted with teaching and training our children,” said Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polit Jr. of the Criminal Division affairs of the Ministry of Justice. statement.

Following the sentencing, Pierce will serve five years of supervised release and must pay $55,100 in special assessments.
