Ford has recalled 250,000 pickups due to cardan shaft fractures that could cause power loss.
According to National Road Safety AdministrationThe trucks affected by the recall are the 2017-2022 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups with a petrol engine and aluminum drive shafts.
“Body and sound insulators can weaken and come into contact with the aluminum propeller shaft, which can damage the propeller shaft and cause it to break,” said Ford.
Ford said that if a broken propeller shaft touches the ground, it could result in loss of power or loss of control.
Trucks can also move unexpectedly if stopped and the parking brake is not applied.
Owners can take their trucks to dealerships, which will inspect and repair them if necessary and attach the insulators properly.
Ford will notify owners by letters beginning April 4.
