Bank of America Experiences Outage, Customers Report Zero Balances in Accounts
Bank of America experienced an outage on Wednesday afternoon, causing some customer accounts to display zero balances.
The issue was first reported at around 12:47 PM ET, according to Downdetector, a platform that tracks technical disruptions.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared that their account balance appeared as $0, though a call to Bank of America’s automated phone system confirmed the correct balance. Meanwhile, the bank’s customer service account on X directed users to a link for support.
Bank of America, the second-largest U.S. bank after JPMorgan, serves 69 million domestic consumer and small business clients.
In a statement to FOX Business, the company said:
“Some clients are experiencing an issue accessing their accounts and balance information today. These issues are being addressed and have largely been resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Despite these reassurances, Downdetector continued to show reports of tech issues into the evening, with outages still being recorded past 7 PM ET.
Bank of America’s stock (BAC) remained steady at $39.23 by the end of the day and has gained over 16% year-to-date, trailing the S&P 500’s nearly 20% rise.
