80s pop star Tiffany didn’t want to record “I Think We’re Alone Now” because she didn’t want to go in the dance direction.

The 50-year-old singer – full name – Tiffany Darvish – admitted that she was against the idea of releasing a cover of the song James and the Shondells, which would become a world hit for her in 1987, because she was set to become the next Stevie Knicks.

However, it grew on her, and she is “forever grateful” for the success he has brought her.

She said in a July 2022 issue of Retro Pop magazine, “I didn’t want to record‘ I Think We’re Alone Now ’because I just thought it would lead me in the direction in which, although I love dance music, i don’t i don’t want people to think i can’t sing. I didn’t really want to be a dance artist; I wanted to be in front of the band.

“My plan was to start there and become Stevie Knicks. I thought,‘ That’s what’s going to happen, ’and then it happens. But I took the track home, and my friends liked it – it just couldn’t be denied – and it grew on me.

“I was happy to record, so I went in and sang the song, and I’m eternally grateful – I really am – and I’m glad I did it and I didn’t say, ‘No, I’m not going to record.’ I said, “Well, I really don’t know, it’s not my favorite, but we’ll do it.”

Tiffany wrote “I Think We’re Alone Now” “Could Have Been”, which topped the American Billboard Hot 100, but she had to fight for its release because the bosses of the record label considered it “a little mature” for the teenage pop star.

She said, “Could Have Been” is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever sung. I’m glad it’s in my arsenal and it’s part of my number 1 and my music history. This is a wonderful song. I think even at 14 I struggled to sing this song because it showed that I can really sing. And then the theme, everyone was, “Well, you know, it’s a little permanent.” And I didn’t really agree because at 14/15 – I recorded the song at 14 and it came out when I was 15 – I kept saying, “I don’t know; I mean, have you ever really seen a teenage girl in love? It’s pretty tragic! ‘ So I think with my request and all that they just went ahead and we put that on the album. And look what happened… ”

The retro-pop issue of 5 / July 2022 is already coming out in newsstands across the UK and online around the world.
